Recreation Soccer Program

Registration is now open for the new Darlington Recreation Soccer Program. The program is open to boys and girls in Kindergarten through 6th grade. Registration will be open for two weeks and close on Sunday, March 22nd. Volunteer coaches and referees will be needed.
 
There will be a coaches and referee meeting on Monday, March 23rd at 6:00pm in the Darlington Municipal Building Senior Room.

Dear Recreation Soccer Parents and Players:

Welcome to the first year of the Darlington Recreation Soccer Program.  The program begins the week of March 30th.  There are a few things that I would like to go over with everyone as we prepare for our first season.

 

Registration:

It is important that you register early.  With this being the first year of this program, we need to have an idea of the number of kids that we will have.  This will determine how many fields we will need and field locations.

 

Practice:

Practice will begin the week of March 30th.  Our goal is for each team to have 1 practice a week (schedule subject to change).  Coaches will be responsible for scheduling practices for their team.  Practice times and days will vary depending on what works for each individual coach. 

 

Games:

We have 4 Saturday morning games scheduled for this year (schedule subject to change).  The first games will be on Saturday, April 18th.  The earliest that games will start will be 9:00am.  Field locations are TBD.  We may have games at multiple locations depending on what we have for numbers.  This will all be communicated further once registration has closed and we get closer to the season starting.

 

Volunteer Coaches and Referees:

The only way this program will be possible is if we get enough volunteer help from parents to coach our teams and referee the games.  This is recreation soccer so we will be playing under simple rules.  If you have no experience with soccer that will not be a problem.  There will be a coaches and referee meeting on Monday, March 23rd in the Darlington Municipal Building Senior Room at 6:00pm.  At this meeting, we will pick teams, go over rules for games, and give coaches practice ideas.  Anyone interested please contact me at 608-482-2511

 

Equipment:

Each child participating in the program will need the following equipment:

  • 1 Soccer Ball (for practices only) – Size 3 for Grades K-2nd – Size 4 for Grades 3rd – 6th
  • Shin Guards
  • Water Bottle
  • Soccer Cleats (optional)

 

Cancelations:

In the event that I should have to cancel a game due to weather, I will make a post on my Park & Rec Facebook page.  The Facebook page address is:

I will also inform all coaches so they can reach out to their teams.  If a practice needs to be canceled, it will be up to the coach to notify their team.
